MIX IT AND MATCH IT!

Fashion is unpredictable, sometimes crazy, quirky and sometimes strange...it's art. A language without having to speak...

I love fashion. I always take what I like and adapt it to me and my lifestyle. I make fashion mine...I mould it to my personality.

I like to mix and match. I take the best pieces and match it all together, mix it up and get a perfectly unique blend specific to me...I pair textures and prints together that would not normally fit, but somehow just works!

These are 3 of my favourite mixes...

Embroidery and leather - wear your biker jacket with a white embroided or broderie anglaise tank, your leather pants with a soft embellished top or blouse and your leather skirt with a lace cami...what about adding some pearls to the mix?

Satin and sweat pants and sweat shirts - satin tracksuit bottoms? Sweat shirt over your satin or silk slip? What about a satin bustier with your sweat pants? Just make sure you always wear strappy heels and loads of accessories.

Denim and embellishment - take your standard issue jeans and vamp it up with feathers, sparkles or Victorian-era embellishment. Dark, dramatic and over the top!

In the name of fashion - mix it and match it!

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!!

Its supposed to be in autumn here in the Southern Hemisphere…

Its currently averaging about 30 degrees celsius in Brisbane, so we are still in Summer! Even though this will only be my 2nd winter in Brisbane I don't recall wearing a coat last year???

THE CAPE  - fashionable, on trend and just enough warmth for our winters.
Wear it with jeans or leather leggings and a light long sleeve t-shirt or light knit
jumper and you good to go! Stylish and chic!

As the Northern Hemisphere is gearing up for Summer and the S/S 2014 trends are everywhere, I thought I would combine the 2 seasons and come up with my top 5 trend for our mild winter…kinda the best of both worlds!

THE ANKLE BOOTIE - so versatile and a major fashion statement at the moment! The suede finish makes it modern and stylish and the nude colour will elongate you legs making them go on forever! You can wear them with just about everything in your closet. Plus the zips add a little edginess...
THE CHOKER - We can thank Chanel for this gorgeous trend…the pearl choker…simple, classic yet edgy and funky! This is one accessory you want in your closet this winter.

THE CAP - Now this is a new trend that has not been around for a while but soooo funky! I love it! Make sure you choose a classic, plain and stylish one like leather, studded or leopard print to avoid looking like a rapper or a trucker...

THE CHUNKY KNIT - stylish with just enough warmth. Wear with jeans and ankle booties, choker and a great bag and you have winter fashion sorted bang on trend!

And there you have it…my favourite trends of both seasons. The best of both worlds! How lucky are we???

STUCK IN STYLE...

I'm a Fashion Stylist.

I know Fashion…yet I found myself stuck in Style…I wondered what my style was…what was my signature??? Like everyone's signature is unique to them I wondered what was mine???

The best way to find out was to start at the beginning…what did I like?

I like jeans, leather, leggings, leopard print or any animal print, kimono style jackets, white, grey and black, chunky necklaces, big bags in funky colours, berry lipstick and matching nails, unusual sunglasses, shoes (any shape, style or colour as long as I love them), short hair, red, minimal make up, feathers, fur, jackets and...Chanel!

Anything thats different, quirky and eccentric...Thats what I like…thats me!

What I don't like is...pastels, co-ordinating colours, eye shadow....

So, I went to my closet and did a major clear out and only kept what I really loved! Now, every time I go to the shops for myself I do think about what my signature is...

I set myself a style challenge this month by only wearing jeans and styling it different ways. What I've learned form my little style experiment so far is that I do love jeans and it certainly makes getting dressed so much easier, plus it's super versatile!

I think I found the rock chick in me with some glamour, style and chic added to it...Gwen Stefani is definitely my style inspiration and the best part is that she a mom too!

So...from now on I'm going to follow my own style advice...wear what you love and wear it with style, glamour and some fashion added for good fun!

Go and find your signature...

SIN CITY - LAS VEGAS BABY!!!

Kendra Thornton recently contacted me and asked me to style a few outfits for her trip to Las Vegas...

Kendra appears regularly as a travel expert on ABC, CBSCW NETWORKS and affiliate stations and has been frequently quoted on travel trends and issues in the WALL STREET JOURNAL, NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY.

Naturally I was honoured and very excited to come up with some fabulously glamorous and stylish outfits!

She wanted a few different looks, including night time and sightseeing options…

For a Las Vegas getaway you want a glam dress for a night on the town, something girly and feminine for dinner and drinks with the girls, a laid back look for shopping, a stylish outfit for some sightseeing and a fabulous cover up for poolside cocktails…

This is what I came up with…

You can never go wrong with a red mani…

Casual chic for some sightseeing.

A great laid back outfit for some retail therapy.

Soft and feminine option for dinner and drinks with the girls...

A gorgeous, glamorous and sexy outfit for a night on the town.
A gorgeous option for any outfit...
Wedges are a casual but comfortable option while still stylish. The nude colour will make your legs look longer.

Chunky, edgy and fashionable.

Dainty and feminine...

Stunning classic with a twist...

Simply exquisite…unexpected and unique…

Chic and sleek...
A pop of colour...
Instant glamour...

Sleek and classic daytime flat.

I include a copy of the brief she gave me.

Vegas Fun for Busy Mom
My name is Kendra, and I am very excited about going to Las Vegas with my friends in a few weeks. Since there are so many fun things to do in Sin City, and especially at the Palms Casino and Resort, I find myself undecided about what to wear. Being a busy mom often makes me reach for whatever is comfortable instead of fashionable. This is why I need help with putting together my outfit for this event, and I am calling it "Kendra's Fashion Challenge." I need you to send me your ideas on what I should wear, based on where I will be going. More details follow below.
While at the Palms, I will be hanging out in the Ghost Bar, which is a dizzying 55 floors above the Strip. The views are spectacular through the glass-bottom balcony, and the lounge atmosphere allows a person really enjoy quality time with friends. In addition, there is no dance floor in the Ghost Bar, which can come as a welcome relief from all the tightly packed clubs in other parts of the city. The quiet vibe provides the opportunity to meet new people while enjoying drinks and just simply relaxing. I am looking forward to spending quite a few hours in this unique establishment, and the right outfit will make for a perfect evening and add to my confidence.
Las Vegas is a dazzling, amazing city that has its own sense of style. Aside from the many choices in gaming and sports books, there are fine restaurants, spectacular shows and numerous bars to choose from, so there is something new to experience every day. While taking in the sights and exploring the impressive themed Las Vegas hotels along the Strip, wearing the right outfit can add a little extra sparkle and fun.

I hope you all like what I have picked for a stylish, glamorous and fashionably fun getaway to Las Vegas!

TRES CHIC OR LA DOLCE VITA???

With A/W 2014 Fashion Weeks behind us, I couldn't help but wonder to myself where I would fit in best? Paris or Milan? Or possibly both...

Don't forget London and New York...I felt it would be best to give them their own glory!

So, what is your fashion city?

Are you more French chic than Italian diva, visa versa or a fashionable mixture of both?

Are you drawn to Chanel or Armani, Balmain or Roberto Cavalli, Dior or Dolce & Gabanna, Jean Paul Gaultier or Gucci, Lanvin or Prada, Louis Vuitton or Valentino...OR all of them OR some of them mixed together?

Would you prefer champagne or espresso...or both? Choices, choices, choices...

By breaking down each city's street style it might help you lean into a category or fall head over heels in love with just one fashion capital!

LA DOLCE VITA loves animal print, bright red, pencil skirts, gold jewellery and tanned limbs and legs…

TRES CHIC prefers tailored blazers, plaid, androgyny, trousers, military style and understatement...

Has this helped you pick a side?

I know who I'm drawn to instantly…

La Dolce Vita!!! Or perhaps Tres Chic...
