FASHION IDENTITY

My love affair with fashion started at a very early age…my mom said that I refused to wear any dresses that didn’t swirl and twirl…my earliest fashion memory is always carrying a handbag with at least a lipstick in it! I was 5! Nothing’s changed…

This made me think and ask the question – are we born with a natural sense of style or can it be taught? Does it come naturally or does it take years of learning and fine-tuning to get it just right?

Sure as we get older we get more refined in our tastes, kind of grow up, but does the dress-up ever end? In my opinion…never! It just keeps getting better!

Throughout my fashion journey I have had many style icons, people I look to for inspiration and ideas, some of them have stayed with me up to now and some I have lost along the way as my style evolved and matured…classics like Coco Chanel have stood the test of time and will always be by my side, cementing my solid love for fashion, yet I find myself identifying more with the rock chic and glamour look than the classic girl next door…kind of a mix between Gwen Stefani and Jennifer Lopez.

So…can we label ourselves or have a fashion identity? Can we place ourselves in a fashion category? Are we a certain fashion type like “bohemian”, “glamour goddess”, “classic” and “label queen or are we just US? Our own unique selves?

I can only hope that my daughter has inherited my fashion gene and that it comes natural to her too, otherwise I will have to start teaching her now…at least I have some time…she’s only a month old and already a little fashionista in the making!
